JPCC Foundation came to Sifalago for the first time in June 2013. Sifalago has been struggling with lighting for years. We decided to bring light to the village. We collaborated with the locals and made an agreement for the light project. Both JPCC Foundation and Sifalago villagers agreed to install the solar panel equipment in 108 houses.
On November 20, 2013, we came back to Sifalago and installed the first solar panel equipment as a pilot project in the Village’s Major house. Scepticisms turned to excitement when they saw light finally coming to Sifalago. Two weeks later, we brought equipment for all the houses and started working on the installation. Involvement of the homeowners in the installation process is a crucial part of this program to build a sense of ownership.
On December 5, 2013, solar panel installation for the whole of Sifalago was complete. It is the day when Sifalago has light in the night for the very first time. Now, the kids can read and study in their houses while the adults can do many activities they could not do before.
Sifalago now shines in the night.
